Core Web Vitals and Technical SEO in 2026: The Checklist I Run Before Launch
LCP, INP, and CLS still matter — for Google and for users who bounce before AI ever cites you. A technical SEO pass I run on WordPress and React launches.
Technical SEO is not a plugin install. It is the sum of architecture, assets, and discipline — and in 2026 it still intersects with Core Web Vitals in ways clients feel in their analytics.
Before I launch a client site in Cairo or ship a Gulf-facing WordPress build, I run this checklist.
**LCP (Largest Contentful Paint):** Optimize the hero image or font block. Preload critical assets, serve WebP/AVIF, and stop loading full slider libraries for one banner. Genesis 360 and Imperia Medx-style heroes should impress quickly — not eventually.
**INP (Interaction to Next Paint):** Defer non-critical JavaScript, break up long tasks, and audit third-party scripts — chat widgets, analytics, heatmaps. Page builders are frequent INP offenders.
**CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift):** Set explicit image dimensions, reserve space for ads and embeds, and avoid injecting banners above existing content. RTL layouts need the same discipline — shifting Arabic text hurts trust.
**Crawlability:** Clean sitemap, robots.txt that does not block assets, canonical URLs, and hreflang for bilingual builds. Prerendered HTML helps SPAs; this portfolio prerenders routes for that reason.
**Structured data:** Validate JSON-LD in Google's rich results test. Person, Organization, BlogPosting, FAQ — match reality.
**GEO overlap:** Fast, well-structured pages earn links and mentions that feed AI citations. Thin, slow pages do not get quoted — machines skip noise.
**Mobile networks:** Test on mid-tier Android over 4G, not just desktop Lighthouse on Wi-Fi. Egyptian and Gulf audiences live on mobile.
**Monitoring:** Set up Search Console and real-user monitoring post-launch. Regressions happen when marketing adds plugins without engineering review.
